Tyne Rising announced!

The big wave has finally landed and we can now announce our most ambitious project to date - Tyne Rising: an outdoor theatre spectacle for all the family.

Artwork by Rachael Horner

The River Tyne has overflowed its banks. Mysterious creatures and unknown forces are unleashed. The people of Tyneside must search their souls and work together to find out how to bring the world back into balance.

Through giant puppets, costumed ensembles, live music and landscape spectacles, this live, one-weekend-only performance will be a memorable outdoor experience for extraordinary times.

Animation by Chloe Rodham

Tyne Rising will be the finale of the 2021 festival, taking place 21st and 22nd August to live, in-person audiences at City Stadium, Newcastle. There will be an online streaming of the show on the 31st August.

We will need all the help we can get to deliver this ambitious piece. Check out our volunteering opportunities to get involved with the biggest puppet show Newcastle has ever seen!

'Cetus' by Thingumajig Theatre will be making an appearance

This production has been specially commissioned for Newcastle Puppetry Festival 2021 and will be directed by Andrew Kim with music by Hannabiell Sanders. A huge thank you to Arts Council England and the Community Foundation for making the show possible.
