Wind Garden

Storytelling, like the wind, carries voices across borders, barriers and generations. ‘Wind Garden’ will explore the meeting point between people, arts & sustainability, engaging 250 North East of England residents through free-to-access creative workshops with artists. Workshops will allow people to create and decorate kinetic sculptures that move in the wind from sustainable/recycled materials. All 250 of these sculptures will be installed together and celebrated on the Great North Museum’s lawn during Newcastle Puppetry Festival 2026 for 9 days in the Easter Holidays.

Get involved!

“I loved how there was space for every single age and every single person out there. It was more than just a workshop” (Participant feedback, 2025)

Join us in brand new project Wind Garden and be part of something spectacular this February half term!

Get creative, learn new skills and meet new friends.

We are looking for North East participants of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to work alongside our team of professional artists. Through a series of friendly daytime workshops everyone involved will have the chance to make and learn about creating kinetic sculptures that move in the wind from sustainable and recycled materials. These sculptures will be used in the final Wind Garden Installation at The Great North Museum - we're aiming to have 250 people involved! No prior experience necessary!

When: Monday 16th - Friday 20th February 2026 (half term)

Time: 10am - 4pm daily

Where: Great North Museum: Hancock, Newcastle upon Tyne
