An approach to all three basic elements that contribute to making a complete visual universe - Object, Universe and Life. OBJECT - puppet, mask, shadows; UNIVERSE - scenography, light and sound; LIFE - how these elements become animate. An exploratory laboratory, which examines through analysis, practice and experimentations, how a harmonious puppetry performance is created. Through improvisations and research on stage individually and in groups, participants will work on how to develop and realise an idea, all the way from scratch to the final desirable result. See here for Merlin Puppet Theatre's show at the festival, "Noone's Land".

There are so many ways you can get involved in Moving Parts. We regularly offer commissions and development opportunities for artists, as well as open calls for programming periods. We run internships, bursary positions and are always looking for volunteers to help us deliver our ambitious events. The best way to stay in the loop is to sign up to our newsletter so you are the first to know about what opportunities we have on offer.

Artists looking to be considered for our main festival programme of shows and masterclasses: We are running the festival very differently this year due to the impacts and uncertainties of Covid-19 and Brexit. We will not be running our usual programme of indoor and outdoor performances from visiting companies. Instead we will be creating a large-scale, specially-made piece so we can respond to the restrictions in place and we have our creative team confirmed to deliver this. If you already applied to our original artist call out at the beginning of 2020 we have already been in contact with you about this and your application will be rolled over to the 2022-2023 programming period. Thank you for your understanding.

Moving Parts Arts is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help us deliver "Tyne Rising" - a large-scale, outdoor theatre spectacle featuring giant puppets, live music and a community chorus. Check out what roles we have available and fill in our quick volunteer questionnaire to apply.

We are passionate about facilitating opportunities to allow artists to explore and create new work. This year we are able to offer not one, but TWO artist commissions as part of Moving Parts: Newcastle Puppetry Festival 2021. As well as the usual Stop Motion Animation Commission, we are also offering a second commission to allow an artist to consider: what is digital puppetry?
Applications have now closed for both of these commissions. Thank you to all who have applied.

Moving Parts Arts is seeking proposals from puppet / visual theatre creators who need a platform to test out new work and collect feedback from audiences. The 2021 edition of the Moving Parts Scratch Space will be presented online to audiences via a streaming service as part of Moving Parts: Newcastle Puppetry Festival 2021.
Applications have now closed for the Scratch Space. Thank you to all who have applied.
